ON REPEAT: TDE’s KENDRICK LAMAR New Single “i” (“I Love Myself”) Produced By Rahki, Mixed By Ali

Fans have mixed feelings on the much anticipated Kendrick Lamar’s first single from the sophomore album of the Compton, Ca rapper which features a sample of the Isley Brothers’ “That Lady,” but I love it. I’m happy that Kendrick went in a completely different direction that most expected him to while most importantly carrying a message with it not only thru the controversial album art which features a blood and crip together with their hands forming the signs of hearts instead of gang symbols. There have been comparisons to Outkast but Kendrick has been speaking about listening to The Isley Brothers and other classic music for some time.

“I bought the whole Isley Brothers collection,” Lamar said last year to Flaunt magazine. “I know all these songs because they were playing in my house growing up, but I didn’t know what I was singing … Now, I realize they were talking about some serious relationship s–t – being in love, being out of love …They were on some grown s–t.”

I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next to come from the album slated for release this Fall on Interscope Records. What are your thoughts on the song? Before reading any comments, take a listen and give your genuine opinion. Don’t judge artist’s music based on the perception of other’s first.

Dash Radio’s “Independent Grind” channel will stream the two-day event of live performances and exclusive interviews. “Independent Grind” on Dash Radio is the first all-independent hip-hop radio station and is powered by independent hip-hop king Tech N9ne.

DJ Skee says of the partnership, “I’m excited this year to partner with the Sunset Music Festival for the exclusive live stream of MURS debut stage at SSMF featuring the hand-picked artists he’s selected to perform. We felt it was a perfect match for our “Independent Grind” station powered by Tech N9ne and Strange Music, where MURS is also signed to. We’ll add this to the long list of things MURS and I continue to do to support the Independent Hip Hop community. On Dash Radio, we have a station called ‘The Strip’ featuring music you’ll hear being performed at the infamous Sunset Strip. I’ve always supported the Sunset Strip Music Festival and look to doing even bigger things together in the years to come.”

MURS also spoke on the collaboration, saying “DJ Skee and his team are always on the cutting edge. To have the opportunity to partner with them on their latest venture Dash Radio is truly exciting. I believe the MURS 316 stage will be leaving an indelible mark upon the Sunset Strip this weekend just as Dash Radio is already making a huge impact in the world of streaming music services and beyond. I think it’s absolutely amazing that fans from all over the world will be able to tune in and experience the MURS 316 Stage at SSMF with a swipe of a finger. And the fact that it’s going to be hosted on the Independent Grind station, which is powered by my label Strange Music, makes the union perfect.”
